What La Mer is like
La Mer is a beachfront leisure destination developed by Meraas on the coast of Jumeirah. Its boardwalks, beach, restaurants, cafés, shops and waterpark attract residents from across the city as well as visitors.
The residential part, including Port de La Mer, sits alongside the leisure areas and a marina. Living here means having the beach and dozens of places to eat within a short walk, while accepting that the area is busy at weekends and in the cooler months.
Homes at La Mer
Homes are mainly apartments in low- and mid-rise buildings, with some larger homes and penthouses. Many have sea or marina views, and buildings typically include pools, gyms and landscaped areas.
When viewing, check:
- the view and how it might be affected by future development
- noise from restaurants, the beach and events
- parking for residents and visitors
- the service-charge budget through Mollak, as buildings with extensive amenities tend to cost more
Buyers should confirm the ownership status of any specific unit with DLD or their conveyancer; our freehold areas guide explains how.
Who La Mer suits
La Mer suits couples, professionals and downsizers who want a newer apartment by the sea in an established coastal area. It also suits people working in central Dubai who want the beach without commuting from the Marina side.
It suits people less well if they want complete quiet, a private garden or a large villa. Families can live comfortably in larger apartments, though most will drive for school runs.
How do you get around?
La Mer sits on the Jumeirah coast, with road links via Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road towards Downtown Dubai, City Walk and Sheikh Zayed Road. Taxis are easy to find.
Access roads can be busy when the destination is crowded. Allow extra time on weekend evenings and during events.
What everyday amenities are nearby?
Restaurants, cafés, a beach, a waterpark and retail are all on the doorstep. For a full supermarket shop and larger malls, residents use the surrounding Jumeirah and City Walk areas, with The Dubai Mall a drive away.
There are schools, nurseries and healthcare facilities within the wider Jumeirah area.
Day-to-day life
Residents describe a holiday-like routine: a morning swim or walk on the boardwalk, coffee by the water and dinner without needing a car. On weekdays the area is calmer, and early mornings are especially peaceful.
At peak times the beach and restaurants fill with visitors, so choose a unit whose position suits how you live. A view of the sea and a quiet bedroom are not always in the same apartment.
How La Mer compares
- City Walk offers a similar Meraas lifestyle inland, built around streets rather than the beach.
- Bluewaters Island is an island destination with apartments off JBR, on the Marina side of the city.
- Umm Suqeim further down the coast offers beachside villas in an older, low-rise neighbourhood.
Owners planning short-term lets need a DET permit and building approval; read our holiday home permit guide.
